Representatives of the Global Ukraine Rail Task Force and its donors travelled to Kyiv at the invitation of Ukrainian Railways (“UZ”) to present a cheque to the value of €100,000 to the Ukrainian Trade Union of Railwaymen and -women, in order to purchase 6,000 food packages that are currently being distributed to railway workers and their families at the frontline of the war.
The Chairman of the Trade Union of Railwaymen and -women, Olexiy Semerun, and the CEO of UZ’s Passenger Rail division, Alexander Pertsovskyi, received the cheque from Nick Brooks, Co-Chair of the Global Ukraine Rail Task Force, Cristina Hammersmark from the Norwegian rail infrastructure manager Bane NOR and Jan Strecker, Managing Director of the charity WE AID (part of the global charity United Way). Together with them, other colleagues also attended the ceremony.
However, there is a total of about 30,000 railway workers and their families in the warzone. Ukrainian rail workers at the frontline often have limited access to food supplies and secure shelters.
Therefore: even more financial donations are needed.
Consequently, we encourage everyone to continue donating (in EUR, GBP and USD) through this website to bring further help to the Ukrainian rail workers. We need another €500,000 to provide 24,000 more packages. Each one consists of flour, pasta, rice, salt, corn and wheat grits, oil, canned fish and meat, pate, tea, condensed milk, sugar and biscuits. Please be generous!
In addition, we encourage more European rail sector representatives to travel to Kyiv and visit Ukrainian Railways (“UZ”). They would really like to welcome you there.
